The Young Teaching the Younger: Building Leaders in Our HSTS Taekwon-Do Cadet Classes in Stevenage
At HSTS Taekwon-Do, one of the things we are most proud of is seeing our students grow not only as martial artists, but as confident, responsible young leaders. Nowhere is this more visible than in our Lower Grade Cadet Classes, where the young are teaching the younger.
Recently, one of our Junior Assistant Instructors took the lead in teaching a lower grade cadet session — a powerful example of how Taekwon-Do develops leadership, maturity, and positive role models from a young age.
Learning Taekwon-Do from Positive Role Models
For younger cadets just beginning their Taekwon-Do journey, having an older cadet as an instructor can be incredibly inspiring. These Junior Assistant Instructors were once in the same position themselves, learning the basics, building confidence, and discovering what it means to be part of a martial arts family.
This approach helps younger students:
Feel more comfortable and supported
Relate to their instructor more easily
See what is possible with commitment and effort
It creates an environment where learning feels encouraging, motivating, and fun.
Leadership Development Through Taekwon-Do
Our Junior Assistant Instructor programme is designed to help junior students develop key life skills alongside their martial arts training. By assisting in classes, they learn:
👊 Leadership and responsibility
💬 Clear communication
🧠 Focus and discipline
💪 Confidence in themselves and their abilities
Teaching others reinforces their own knowledge while helping them grow into strong, respectful role models — both inside and outside the dojang.
