On Sunday 20th September 2026, 21 HSTS Taekwon-Do students joined fellow candidates from across the UTA for the UTA Black Belt Degree Grading at UTA Headquarters in Hitchin.
With candidates testing for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Dan, the day marked an important milestone built on years of training, dedication and personal development.
A Comprehensive ITF Taekwon-Do Assessment
The day began at 9:00am with a two-hour pre-grading session, followed by the theory examination. After a lunch break, candidates returned for the practical assessment from 12:30pm to 3:00pm.
Covering all aspects of the ITF Taekwon-Do syllabus, the grading tested both practical ability and theoretical knowledge. Candidates needed to maintain their concentration, demonstrate their understanding and apply the skills developed through regular training.
Working Towards 1st, 2nd and 3rd Dan
For students taking their 1st Dan grading, the day represented a significant step after years of progressing through the colour belt syllabus.
For those testing for 2nd and 3rd Dan, it reflected their continued commitment to learning and developing beyond their first black belt.
Each stage brings fresh challenges and greater expectations. Progress requires students to refine existing techniques, develop new skills and deepen their understanding of Taekwon-Do.
Recognising the Commitment Behind Every Candidate
A black belt degree grading represents far more than a single day of assessment. Behind every candidate are countless lessons, repeated practice, corrections and challenges overcome.
We are proud of the 21 HSTS candidates who stepped forward, and of the discipline and perseverance shown throughout their preparation. Balancing regular training with school, work and family commitments takes sustained effort, and reaching this stage deserves recognition.
The support of instructors, training partners and families also plays an important role. Thank you to everyone who helped our students prepare and encouraged them along the way.
